Lower the drinking age

I feel that lowering the drinking age is not that big a deal. Kids drink at such young ages now that 19 only symbolizes the fact they can drink in a bar. In many European countries you can more or less drink as soon as you can see over the bar, but drinking at home is not uncommon. Fertig state that lowering the drinking age will increase pregnancies and lower birth rates and premature births. But if we properly address the whole issue, like not hiding it and being hypocritical I believe it would be better. In countries where the drinking age is considerable lower, or there is none at all, the problems with teenage drinking problems is more or less non-existent. This is due to the fact that these countries accept the fact that kids will try to drink, especially if we hid or do it, and that if it is there and know about and see what it can do it will fix the problem on its own. On a recent trip to Germany my uncle noted that many of the teenagers don’t think much of drinking. Yes, they do drink but its wine and only a bottle or two amongst around twenty people. They do not get drunk like Canadian or American kids because it is there, they’re allowed it. My family dose the same thing, drinking is there, it always will be and there is no reason to hide it. My cousins and I don’t feel the need to go out and drink. We get in more trouble if we did than if we asked to drink at home with our parents. We also understand the fact that drinking can cost us a lot. That binge drinking may lead to being an alcoholic, that drinking and getting arrested can cost us future careers. I feel that people should have the ability to control themselves and be able to make their own decisions.
